An initiative for the next generation of agronomists
24/04/23
Last January, Mr. Laurent Freixe and Mr. Juan Gabriel Reyes, Nestlé CEO's of Latin America and Central America, respectively, visited the Bosques del Mañana project (Forests of Tomorrow) in Nicaragua; on this day the Nestlé executives visited the entire ECOM Nicaragua team that is in charge of the implementation of this project, which involves the planting of 8.6 million trees over a period of 5 years. They also visited the group of female nursery workers and more than 100 young people out of the 400 working directly for the project.
As part of this visit, Mr. Freixie signed an agreement with ECOM Nicaragua to work on generating opportunities and developing skills for young people involved in and benefiting from the project. The intention of this agreement is to join efforts in order to provide tools that allow young people to continue improving their quality of life and generating opportunities for a better working future.
Since January 2023, Nestlé and ECOM Nicaragua have been working together to develop a comprehensive technical curriculum that will enable 200 young people to become technicians in the coffee business and more than 400 young people with tools in specific courses.
The complete technical program consists of 8 modules including courses on wet and dry processing, quality, forest management, regenerative agriculture practices and biodiversity, nursery production, human rights, and women's empowerment. The complete technical program has a total duration of 9 months including study hours and field practices.
