Empowering the next generation
Today’s youth are constantly grappling with multiple challenges – should they seek employment, should they embark on entrepreneurial initiatives or, for the more fortunate, should they join the family business.
In the latest initiative by Dormans Coffee dubbed, "Empowering the Next Generation," Dormans took on the challenge of addressing these multiple pressing issues for the youth.
A collaboration with Rainforest Alliance and Kenya Coffee Events saw the Dormans team impart business skills to a group of youth from Embu and Kirinyaga.
Karen, who had been toying with the idea of opening a restaurant, was jubilant upon learning that the ‘secret’ ingredient to having a host of fancy drinks on her menu was an Espresso. After picking up practical lessons on extracting a perfect Espresso, and how she could make complimentary drinks, she exclaimed, “Gosh, how is that by simply adding steamed milk and foam to a shot of Espresso, I can offer my customers a Latte. If I substitute the milk with water, I can give them an Americano. I have also learnt how to make a beautifully balanced Cappuccino. The trainers at Nairobi School of Coffee by Dormans are the best!”. Her contagious happiness saw a colleague step up to collaborate with her in this restaurant venture.
Along with business and customer service skills to ensure the youth have a sustainable future, the team also deepened their understanding of the various coffee processes from farm to cup.
Dormans continues to demonstrate their commitment to improving lives through every cup of exceptional coffee.
