Climate-Smart Cotton through a Sustainable and Innovative Supply Chain Approach
06/06/23
This program deploys funding from the USDA's Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities alongside resources from ECOM USA and program partners to scale the production and consumption of climate-smart cotton.
ECOM USA is now accepting inquiries from cotton growers in the states of Arkansas and Texas for participation in this program for the 2024/2025 crop year.
This program promotes the adoption of sustainable and regenerative practices for cotton production by US farmers. With support from project partners, it provides technical support and impact payments along with traceability and data management strategies. The program requires the adoption of regenagri, Better Cotton (BC) or Transitional Organic Cotton (Texas Dept. of Agriculture) as mechanisms for recognizing and compensating growers for adopting climate smart cotton production practices.
In order to be eligible for enrollment, you must be willing to:
- Enroll in one of the following certification programs: Better Cotton Initiative, regenagri®, or Transitional Organic (certified by the Texas Department of Agriculture)
- Register with the FSA
- Complete the required enrollment documents
Major project partners include Quarterway Cotton Growers, Earthworm Foundation, Texas A&M AgriLife Research, University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension, Control Union USA, 5Loc Cotton, and more to be announced.
